Director of Engineering - (US/Canada), Remote

Role Overview

As the Director of Engineering, you will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and be responsible for driving the technical strategy, leading engineering teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of AI-powered solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product, Research, Applied, and Operations, to ensure innovation and execution at the highest level. You will play a pivotal role in defining technical strategy, scaling our AI infrastructure, optimizing performance, and fostering a culture of technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute the engineering roadmap aligned with the company’s AI vision and business objectives.
  
  
• Hands-on leader who is not afraid to write code and debug problems with the team
• Lead, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering teams across backend, frontend, Inference, and API development.
  
  
• Oversee the design, development, and deployment of scalable, reliable, and secure full-stack applications and APIs.
  
  
• Collaborate with Product, Research, Applied, and Sales teams to translate AI innovations into market-ready solutions, with proven experience shipping complex products on tight timelines.
  
  
• Ensure best practices in software development, architecture, cloud infrastructure, security, and observability.
  
  
• Drive technical excellence through modern development methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and effective DevOps/MLOps practices.
  
  
• Establish and track key performance indicators to measure engineering efficiency, product reliability, and platform performance.
  
  
• Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and industry trends across AI, web, and API development to drive continuous innovation.
  
  
• Partner with leadership to define technical hiring strategies and foster a strong, collaborative engineering culture.
  
  
• Work closely with the CTO to align engineering execution with overall technology and business strategy.
  
  

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role at a high-growth technology, AI, or deep-tech company.
  
  
• Proven track record of building and scaling engineering teams responsible for backend, frontend, and API platforms.
  
  
• Strong expertise in distributed systems, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and modern web architectures.
  
  
• Experience in building and owning full stack products using programming languages/frameworks such as Go, Typescript, Java, or Python.
  
  
• Familiarity with MLOps, data infrastructure, and deploying AI models in production environments.
  
  
• Strong understanding of application security, compliance, and ethical technology principles.
  
  
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  
  
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, AI, or a related field.
  
  

Preferred

• Experience in a high-growth startup environment.
  
  
• Knowledge of AI regulations, data privacy laws, and ethical technology frameworks.
  
  
• Prior experience running Gen AI models or applications in production.
