We are seeking an experienced Real-Time Communications (RTC) Engineer to join OpenAI as our first dedicated RTC specialist. In this role, you will expand upon our solid foundation of ChatGPT Voice and GPT-4o and work closely with product and research teams to design, iterate and safely deploy our multimodal models in real time environments. Your contributions will establish the technical groundwork for the AI-first future of human-computer interaction.

In this role, you will:

• Innovate on techniques for integrating AI and RTC, ensuring minimum latency for model operations and I/O delivery,

• Establish new standards for streaming audio and video inputs and outputs between our users and models,

• Lead cross-functional efforts and alignment across infrastructure, product, and research teams to minimize the latencies across our stack,

• Collaborate with infrastructure teams to develop and deploy world-class real-time AI infrastructure, enabling over 100M ChatGPT users to access our latest multimodal models,

• Work closely with product teams to develop new real-time features for our API and ChatGPT.

You might thrive in this role, if you:

• Have an extensive knowledge of the WebRTC stack, audio and video codecs, and low-latency streaming systems,

• Have experience in building production software systems at scale, particularly in scaling RTC deployments,

• Have a strong desire to learn and fill in missing skills, coupled with an ability to share knowledge clearly and concisely,

• Are comfortable with ambiguity and rapidly changing conditions, viewing changes as opportunities to introduce structure and order,

• Experience with AI and Large Language models is a plus, but not required.
