About the role:

Modular is building a next-generation AI platform that provides unmatched inference speed, hardware portability, and model extensibility. A key component of our stack is Mojo, a new programming language that targets diverse hardware—CPUs, GPUs, and other accelerators—using Python's intuitive syntax combined with modern systems programming capabilities.

We’re looking for somebody who can quickly learn new programming concepts and new developer tools, and then teach them to others with clear and concise documentation. You should have experience writing code examples and documentation for an advanced engineering audience. On the spectrum between a pure writer and an engineer, you’re strong on the engineering side. You must be comfortable writing code and diving deep into new and unfamiliar technologies.

LOCATION: Candidates based in the US or Canada are welcome to apply. You can work in our office in Los Altos, CA or remotely from home. Onboarding for new hires is conducted in-person in our Los Altos, CA office.

What you will do:

  • Read and write Mojo code to develop a strong understanding of the language features, APIs, developer tools, and user needs.
  • Work closely with the Mojo engineering team to understand new language features, APIs, and tools.
  • Write code examples, programming guides, tutorials, and other documentation about the Mojo language and API libraries.
  • Maintain and update existing code examples and documentation, including editing and revising documentation to ensure completeness, correctness, and clarity.
  • Collaborate with other technical writers on large documentation sets, using a shared structure and style guide.

What you bring to the table:

  • 5+ years experience with more than one language such as Python, C, C++, Swift, Rust, Julia, Zig, Kotlin, Scala, or similar.
  • 3+ years experience writing tutorials, API references, and other documents for software engineers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts in simple language.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to gather and organize information from a variety of sources.
  • A strong curiosity and desire for personal growth, with an attitude that seeks to learn through personal exploration and from our customers, team, and industry.

The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in the US, regardless of the state, is $135,000.00 - $204,000.00 USD.
The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in Canada, regardless of the province, is $128,000.00 - $193,000.00 CAD.
Th
e salary for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of permissible, non-discriminatory job-related factors, which include but are not limited to education, training, work experience, business needs, or market demands. This range may be modified in the future. The total compensation for a candidate will also include annual target bonus, equity, and benefits, with equity making up a significant portion of your total compensation.
