About Modular

At Modular, we’re on a mission to revolutionize AI infrastructure by systematically rebuilding the AI software stack from the ground up. Our team, made up of industry leaders and experts, is building cutting-edge, modular infrastructure that simplifies AI development and deployment. By rethinking the complexities of AI systems, we’re empowering everyone to unlock AI’s full potential and tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

If you’re passionate about shaping the future of AI and creating tools that make a real difference in people’s lives, we want you on our team. You can read about our culture and careers to understand how we work and what we value.

About the role:

Modular is building a next-generation AI platform that provides unmatched inference speed, hardware portability, and model extensibility. It’s a ground-up re-thinking of the infrastructure so developers can build and deploy GenAI on a wide range of hardware (CPUs, GPUs, and more) without vendor lock-in—no CUDA required. Now that we’ve built the foundation of the infrastructure, we’re expanding into the cloud so users can easily deploy and manage AI applications powered by Modular.

We’re looking for somebody with experience writing documentation for cloud services or other AI infrastructure who can help us create the best possible documentation for new cloud products. You should be comfortable writing code and troubleshooting nascent technology, but above all else, you should be obsessed with writing the best possible docs and building the best possible user experience. You make complex topics easy to understand, using simple language and thoughtfully designed pages, and you help improve the product instead of working around its flaws with more documentation.

LOCATION: Candidates based in the US or Canada are welcome to apply. You can work in our office in Los Altos, CA or remotely from home. Onboarding for new hires is conducted in-person in our Los Altos, CA office.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with the product and engineering teams to define the user experience and identify issues that should be either fixed or documented.
  • Experiment with new tools to deploy AI models in the cloud, and then smooth out any friction and proactively answer any questions users might have.
  • Write developer guides, concept guides, help docs, tutorials, and other documentation for developer tools and services.
  • Maintain existing documentation, including revising documentation to ensure they’re correct, complete, and clear.
  • Review the writing of others across various channels (blog posts, marketing pages, developer docs, etc.) to ensure consistent terminology and style.

What you bring to the table:

  • 5+ years experience writing technical docs for software engineers.
  • Experience using cloud platforms and related technologies, such as AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, etc.
  • A strong understanding of major AI/ML tools and concepts, including PyTorch, LLMs, vLLM, fine-tuning, etc.
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to describe complex concepts and procedures both clearly and concisely.
  • A knack for effective document design—you’re allergic to “walls of text” and you know how to make pages inviting and easy to scan.
  • A strong curiosity and desire for personal growth, with an attitude that seeks to learn through personal exploration and from our customers, team, and industry.

What Modular brings to the table:

  • Amazing Team. We are a progressive and agile team with some of the industry’s best engineering and product leaders.
  • World-class Benefits. In order to attract the best, we need to offer the best. Premier insurance plans, up to 5% 401k matching, flexible paid time off, and more are available to you! Please note that specific benefit packages may vary based on your location.
  • Competitive Compensation. We offer very strong compensation packages, including stock options. We want people to be focused on their best work and believe in tailoring compensation plans to meet the needs of our workforce.
  • Team Building Events. We organize regular team onsites and local meetups in Los Altos, CA as well as different cities. Traveling 2-4 times a year is expected for all roles.

Working at Modular will enable you to grow quickly as you work alongside incredibly motivated and talented people who have high standards, possess a growth mindset, and a purpose to truly change the world.
