About the role:
The Platform Engineering group owns and operates the core systems that enable collaboration across Modular—from multi-cloud infrastructure to a distributed CI system to insight and analytics dashboards. In the Software Development Life Cycle team, we directly support development.
We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to own and improve the systems that support our entire software development life cycle, from local development through to release. In this role, you’ll balance hands-on development with technical leadership, designing and implementing new features while also investing in team knowledge and skills. We are looking for someone passionate about helping developers succeed both inside and outside the team.
LOCATION: Candidates based in the US or Canada are welcome to apply. You can work out of our office in Los Altos, CA or remotely from home.
What you will do:
- Shape the developer experience at Modular
- Promote technical and team excellence through collaboration and leadership
- Maintain core development systems—local builds, CI, benchmarking, and release
What you bring to the table:
- 7+ years of relevant experience
- Comfort working across languages, tools, and systems—focusing on problem-solving rather than specific technologies
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to share information with internal and external engineering and product teams
- Experience maintaining Kubernetes applications
- Experience building, deploying, and supporting cloud services (bonus points for multi-cloud)
- Experience using open source software components in production
- Alignment with our core company cultural values
Helpful but not required:
- Experience with Bazel—you can see some of our open source work here!
- Experience with GPUs, either on the infrastructure or application side

The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in the US, regardless of the state, is $234,000.00 - $273,000.00 USD.
The estimated base salary range for this role to be performed in Canada, regardless of the province, is $221,000.00 - $258,000.00 CAD.
The salary for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of permissible, non-discriminatory job-related factors, which include but are not limited to education, training, work experience, business needs, or market demands. This range may be modified in the future. The total compensation for a candidate will also include annual target bonus, equity, and benefits, with equity making up a significant portion of your total compensation.
