About the role:

Forter is looking for a Senior Product & Privacy Counsel to join our fast-growing Legal team. We have a huge opportunity in front of us, and the person we hire for this role will play a key part in ensuring we can seize it. Reporting to our Senior Director, Legal, this counsel will be the sole dedicated product and privacy lawyer, focusing on product, data privacy, data security, data governance, and AI governance and counseling. This senior position will lead significant aspects of Forter’s Legal function, supporting the Engineering, R&D, Product, InfoSec, Sales and other business teams globally on all aspects of the business, with an emphasis on product design, build and implementation, compliance with local laws, including data privacy and AI laws and regulations, and contract drafting, review and negotiation. This position reports on a day-to-day basis to the Senior Director, Legal based in London

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead privacy compliance efforts by ensuring that our products and practices align with global privacy, security and AI laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA and the EU AI Act.
  • Serve as the point of contact for privacy and security-related inquiries and incidents.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate privacy and AI considerations into our products and services, develop and execute a cohesive product legal strategy, and implement best practices.
  • Monitor, review and assess new laws and regulations that impact Forter’s business, including privacy and security, data governance, IP, AI and payments regulations, and provide practical advice on their implications.
  • Work closely with our InfoSec team on managing security incidents, maintaining security certifications, and implementing best practices globally.
  • Assist in creating, implementing, and managing privacy, data governance, information security, and incident response policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments and risk assessments where required.
  • Support privacy projects, provide DPA contracting support, and facilitate integration of privacy, risk, and compliance requirements into business planning processes, including marketing and new product development.
  • Support the risk management function of the business, serving on the Risk Oversight Committee and relevant sub-committees.
  • Support business teams in structuring product partnerships, and drafting and negotiating agreements with vendors.
  • Advise senior management and business clients on aspects of privacy and AI laws and regulations globally, including through the creation of customer collateral.

What you'll need:

  • J.D. degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and admitted and member in good standing of a state bar, and/or qualified solicitor in the UK in good standing.
  • 5+ years of relevant legal experience, in software company and/or in a law firm counseling rapid-growth technology companies.
  • Substantive experience in advising on privacy and data protection matters, including with respect to the GDPR and CCPA.
  • Substantive experience advising on AI matters, including with respect to the EU AI Act.
  • Substantive experience with drafting and negotiating complex legal agreements, with a particular focus on privacy and data protection (e.g., DPAs, product partnership agreements, etc.).
  • Experience managing an IP portfolio.
  • Experience working at a high growth technology company, in particular at a B2B software or SaaS company.
  • High ethical standards and strong communication skills.
  • Practical yet creative problem-solving approach that emphasizes addressing business needs while protecting Forter’s interests.
  • Willingness to work cross-functionally and on projects that are new and/or unfamiliar.
  • Ability to work on multiple issues simultaneously and set appropriate priorities while delivering results efficiently.
