About the Role
Descript makes creating beautifully designed video as easy as creating docs and slides. Its text-based editing, automated design, and AI superpowers enable communicators to record, edit, and share professional-quality video without professional video skills. And teams in marketing, sales, support, and learning & development use Descript to scale their video production without scaling their teams or their budgets.
We’re looking for a Creative Director - someone who brings together creative vision, a commitment to craft, and a proven approach to team operations. This person knows how to lead teams to consistently produce outstanding work and deepen their skills…and their track record proves it. In their own creative work, they excel at simplifying complex ideas and turning cutting-edge technologies into stories that are engaging and easy to grasp.
This role is for someone who doesn’t just direct from the sidelines: you’re a play coach, ready to roll up your sleeves, jump into the work, and push the brand forward with originality and craft.
You’ll work closely with marketing, product, and leadership to shape how Descript shows up in the world - particularly across our website, brand campaigns, and GTM for new offerings.
What You’ll Do
- Define and evolve the Descript brand, with a focus on visual design and web presence
- Lead and manage a small but mighty team of brand designers — setting the bar for creative excellence
- Collaborate across marketing, product, and leadership to translate strategy into breakthrough creative
- Be hands-on in the work: sketching, designing, and giving thoughtful feedback that improves the output
- Balance high craft with speed and iteration — a taste for risk and experimentation, grounded in design rigor
- Ensure a strong design process across the team, with clear briefs, reviews, timelines, and expectations
- Help the team advance and build out the brand design system
- Protect and nurture the creative team’s space to do their best work, without unnecessary chaos
Who You Are
- Strong ability to shape and execute brand design at a high level — especially across web and product marketing
- Experienced in leading brand and web design at a high-growth company or creative agency
- A visual communicator — you're a picture person. You think in color, layout, and movement
- Proven operational experience — you can bring structure, clarity, and calm to fast-moving projects and teams
- Collaborative, open, friendly, and curious
- Bonus if you’ve worked on AI products
The base salary range for this role is $180,000 - $208,000. Final offer amounts will carefully consider multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise, and location, and they may vary from the amount above.
