Who are we?
Our mission is to scale intelligence to serve humanity. We’re training and deploying frontier models for developers and enterprises who are building AI systems to power magical experiences like content generation, semantic search, RAG, and agents. We believe that our work is instrumental to the widespread adoption of AI.
We obsess over what we build. Each one of us is responsible for contributing to increasing the capabilities of our models and the value they drive for our customers. We like to work hard and move fast to do what’s best for our customers.
Cohere is a team of researchers, engineers, designers, and more, who are passionate about their craft. Each person is one of the best in the world at what they do. We believe that a diverse range of perspectives is a requirement for building great products.
Join us on our mission and shape the future!
Why this role?
We are building a Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team that has the drive, and experience to engage in and shape a nascent and unique public policy environment for enterprise artificial intelligence.
We seek a public policy professional who will be responsible for coordinating with key cross-functional partners to develop the company’s policy priorities and positions, and provide policy advice to teams across the business. Candidates will have a proven track record, are analytical, collaborative, driven, and possess a passion for the new and evolving public policy debate at the intersection of enterprise technology and AI.
There’s no better time to join us in building this function as we shape the future of AI.

In this role you will:

  • Report to Cohere’s Global Head of Government Affair & Public Policy.
  • Identify, prioritize, and develop public policy positions that outline Cohere’s views on appropriate regulation of artificial intelligence and related issues. These positions will be developed in a cross-functional and multi-disciplinary way – partnering closely with Cohere’s senior leadership, legal, government relations, sales, product and responsible AI teams among others.
  • Support responsible AI public policy advocacy efforts globally, working with internal subject matter experts and government affairs teams in key jurisdictions. This will involve coordinating with those teams in responding to internal and external requests for information, comments on regulatory proposals, briefing papers, and other collateral materials to equip those teams with the resources needed to engage with policymakers.
  • Support the identification of changing business and regulatory trends and provide strategic policy advice to senior leadership to inform our product and business strategy.
  • In coordination with the government affairs team, represent Cohere externally on a range of responsible AI issues, and in a range of fora, including with our trade associations, in meetings with government officials and lawmakers, working groups, and initiatives.

You may be a good fit for this career opportunity, if you have:

  • 7+ years of proven experience working with or in government, public interest groups, trade associations or corporate public policy organizations.
  • JD or an undergraduate degree in political science (or equivalent practical experiences).
  • Broad knowledge of technology policy and artificial intelligence, its application, and uses.
  • Experience in drafting public policy positions, reviewing and redlining legislation. Familiarity with technology policies in regulated sectors (such as banking, healthcare and others) is helpful.
  • Some international public policy experience is preferred.
  • A strong aptitude to navigate intricate and fluid policy debates across multiple jurisdictions, prioritize issues, and distill key messages for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience advising, and collaborating with cross-functional internal & external stakeholders.
  • A growth mindset, and a self-starter with the ability to work independently, and get things done.
If some of the above doesn’t line up perfectly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply! If you consider yourself a thoughtful worker, a lifelong learner, and a kind and playful team member, Cohere is the place for you.
We value and celebrate diversity and strive to create an inclusive work environment for all. We welcome applicants of all kinds and are committed to providing an equal opportunity process. Cohere provides accessibility accommodations during the recruitment process. Should you require any accommodation, please let us know and we will work with you to meet your needs.
